Eyelash extensions: they are the semi-permanent option to give your lashes mega volume, length and fullness without applying even a swipe of mascara.
If you've ever considered getting eyelash extensions but feel more than a little confused by all the different options, then you've come to the right place. Because we've sought out the experts to bring you a handy all-in-one guide with everything you need to know about eyelash extensions.
From how long they last, to how to remove them and the best places to get them done, here's what you need to know about eyelash extensions
What are eyelash extensions and how are they applied?
A lash extension treatment involves applying individual synthetic lashes to each natural lash to add extra length and volume. They are perfect for a holiday, a big event or just perfect lashes every day. It takes about an hour and a half for a full set to be applied, so it is definitely not a lunch break treatment. But you will be surprised; it is extremely relaxing and many people fall asleep while they are being applied. So plan your time wisely to get some sleep during the treatment.
Are there different types of eyelash extensions?
There are many different lengths, thicknesses and curls to choose from after an initial consultation with your therapist to get the look you want. You can also get half a set or just corner lashes – depending on how full you want them.
How long do eyelash extensions last?
Eyelash extensions typically last the same lifespan as your natural lash cycle, which is between 4-6 weeks. However, to avoid them looking patchy as they grow out, most lash salons usually recommend a touch-up after 2 or 3 weeks to keep the lashes looking completely full and uniform.
Russian lashes last up to 8 weeks, both maintenance-free. The lash extensions fall out naturally with the natural lashes, which is why maintenance may be required due to not knowing the lash growth cycle for each individual lash.

How to remove eyelash extensions?
To avoid damage to your natural lashes, lash extensions are best removed professionally by your lash technician. A special gel or cream remover is applied and the process usually takes between 10-15 minutes. However, some salons offer a take-home remover, so it's a good idea to check with your technician after you've applied them to see if this is an option.
How do you take care of your lashes?
So how do you make your lashes last longer? As with any treatment, it's important to follow the recommended aftercare.
Stay away from the water.
With eyelash extensions, this means keeping the lashes away from water for 24 hours and heat treatments, such as saunas or steam, after they have been applied.
Avoid oil-based beauty products
"Avoid any oil-based products around the eye area, especially oil-based eye makeup removers as these dissolve the glue much faster." Many eye makeup removers contain oil so make sure you get a lash-friendly cleanser to remove your makeup.
Comb them in the morning
It's also worth mentioning that your lashes may get a little twisted in the morning (the perils of having a super full flutter) so it's a good idea to use a small spoolie brush to get them in place.
How much do eyelash extensions cost?
That's right, the cost. Eyelash extensions aren't cheap, and it's definitely worth paying the price rather than risking a horror story with your lashes. A full semi-permanent set typically costs upwards of $150. But when it comes to your eyes, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. So be careful and make sure you get it done by someone who actually knows how.
If you would rather try another treatment that is simpler and cheaper, we recommend a lash lift .
